LPAC Services

Wellness

Recognition is growing among lawyers that practising law is exacting and can take a heavy toll emotionally, mentally and physically and sometime financially. As well as providing assistance when lawyers experience distress, professional counselling can help before a personal problem has a negative impact on one's personal and professional life. Commencing in 1989, LPAC has helped establish lawyers assistance programs in every Province ranging from fully funded professional programs to volunteer organizations. LPAC provides expertise, guidance and research resources to these Programs and assists both paid personnel and volunteers in developing their skills.

24 Hour Helpline - 1.800.667.LPAC

Lawyers, judges, law students and their families, staff, and friends can phone our 24 Hour Helpline at 1.800.667.5722 for confidential help, assistance, guidance and professional referrals. Remember, we are totally confidential.

Funding

LPAC is funded by the Canadian Bar Insurance Association with additional help from the Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association, the Canadian Bar Association, Provincial Lawyer Assistance Programs and lawyers, judges and law Students across Canada. LPAC's 24 hour helpline is answered by the Renascent Foundation in Toronto. The Ontario Bar Association provides conference and meeting space support for our workshops and our Directors' meetings.

About CBIA

LPAC provides the Loss Prevention Program for the Canadian Bar Insurance Association. By working directly with the CBIA and by offering the Health, Wellness & Recovery Education Series LPAC strives to reduce and prevent claims and losses.

LPAC works directly with claims personnel at health and indemnity insurance companies after pioneering special relationships with Manulife with LAWPRO and CLIA. Working with claims personnel on a confidential basis, LPAC matches insureds' clients on disability and liability claims with appropriate peer volunteers in recovery who can act as mentors, role models and recovery advisors. LPAC has worked with CBIA to develop hundreds of successful outcomes.

LPAC has developed a special brochure with CBIA to be sent to each lawyer who is buying insurance for the first time or reporting a claim or possible claim.  LPAC continues to provide loss prevention and continuing education to health and indemnity insurers' claims and rehabilitation personnel and to staff and sale representatives.
